Quantification of Social Health Inequalities

For over two decades, social health inequalities have remained at a very high level in France. The Covid-19 pandemic has reminded us that the occurrence of a previously unknown pathology could contribute to exacerbating pre-existing social and economic inequalities, or even creating new ones. The aim of this symposium is to reflect on the various ways of measuring health inequalities through statistical surveys and the theoretical issues underlying them, whether they are socio-economic, geographical, gender-based, or ethnoracial inequalities. The challenge is to make visible the social processes that contribute to these inequalities, which are embedded in social structures, and how they manifest or intensify at different stages of health pathways: exposure to health risks, access to care, and care provided by the healthcare system.
