We are inviting applications for a postdoctoral researcher position M/F as part of the ERC Synergy project GENDHI (Gender and Health Inequalities), an initiative exploring the intersection of gender and socioeconomic factors in shaping health outcomes. The researcher will engage in a comparative analysis of health inequalities across European countries, leveraging the latest wave of the European Social Survey, on social inequalities in health and gender in contemporary Europe (ESS round 11 2023)
Position Overview
The candidate will conduct innovative research examining how gender interacts with other socioeconomic and demographic factors to influence health disparities across European nations. This intersectional approach will provide new insights into the drivers of inequality. The researcher will be under the supervision of Pr. Pierre Yves Geoffard at the Paris School of Economics.
Research Objectives
The project will focus on:
- Gender as a Key Lens: Investigating the role of gender as a primary entry point in understanding health inequalities and its interaction with other factors such as income, education, and employment.
- Cross-National Analysis: Comparing health outcomes across European countries, identifying structural, cultural, and policy differences that influence disparities.
- Intersectionality: Exploring how gender intersects with age, ethnicity, and other demographic and socio-economic variables to shape health outcomes.
Eligibility and Qualifications
- A PhD in economics, demography, or sociology.
- Expertise in quantitative methods and experience working with large-scale survey datasets (e.g., European Social Survey, Share).
- Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, Stata, or Python).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth analyses of ESS data with a focus on gender and health disparities.
- Develop and implement innovative methodologies to study intersectionality in health outcomes.
- Prepare high-quality publications and present findings at international conferences.
- Collaborate with the GENDHI project team to advance its mission of addressing gendered health inequalities.
- Contribute to dissemination activities targeting both academic and policy audiences.
